Question about Quickbooks

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I was prompted to ask a lingering question due to the small business chatter on the thread about your own business readiness. My accountant/brother/all-around-redneck-doomster (Hi Lester!) says that everybody uses Quickbooks and that he heard the Mac version is not at all ready for y2k. One could infer that maybe the Wintel version has problems also. Any comments from you small business guys out there?

I have the new version, but haven't installed it yet. The people at quickbooks say it is 2000 compliant. windows version for IBM compatibles.

We'll see

Dave,

Here's the manufacturer's URL for checking Quickbooks Y2K compliance. There are some versions that will not be supported after October, 1999, some that have a free upgrade, and some that need to have an upgrade purchased. Good luck!

Check it out at http://www.intuit.com/corporate/year2000/find_your_product.html

Basically it says that Quickbooks v6.0+ for Windows are compliant. 5.0 needs a patch and 4.0 and back will not be tested. None of the Quickbooks for the Mac are compliant. Also, a lot of the older Quicken software is not being tested by Intuit. If you use Quicken you may need to upgrade.

I currently use Quickbooks Pro 5.0 for windows. Last week I received a patch disc in the mail from Intuit to make the version compliant. Without the patch, Quickbooks Pro is not compliant. Go to the Intuit website for more details.

Been using Quicken for years now. In late April, Intuit notified all Quicken users that, if they have not already done so, they needed to upgrade to Y2K-Ready versions (Quicken98 or preferably Quicken99). They even offered Q98 free to all current users.

They also stated that all Online Banking customers MUST upgrade to Q98 or Q99 by end of June (a.k.a. FY1999 for many places), and the banks echoed this statement. Norwest Bank was pretty clear about it - sneak@lurk.hid), July 07, 1999.

Now stop that!

Let's try that again:

...Norwest Bank was pretty clear about it - Norwest Bank: Quicken 98 Upgrade:

Q. What will happen if I choose not to upgrade my software?

A. Federal regulations require that we retire systems which are not Year 2000 ready. On June 30, 1999 if you have not upgraded your Quicken software to a Y2k ready version (Quicken 98 or 99), you will no longer be able to do Online Banking through your Quicken software. If you would like to know more information about what we are doing to prepare for Y2k, please go to: http://www.norwest.com/information-year2000/doc/index.htm

Well! The indignity of it all! Quicken Delux was a freebie on our iMac: we just trashed it. WhoooHooo! Had never opened it ... we've been in "lockdown" mode since last summer. Did a search on whole puker & the Quicken sucker is gone. Whew. It's still on the CD in case this info is incorrect ;^)
