Panic now OR Panic later?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Well last Sept I Got it and boy did I panic !!! I started preparing as I knew this was going to be a depression worse than 1929! Now here we are 179 days to go. I'm panicing again, I lost my job....I'm so far in debt there's no way out, can't file bankruptcy eaither because I have to much stuff!!! Now the only plan I have is keep racking the credit cards till 01/01/00. If I'm conservative by then, I'll be 75,000 in debt, still not enough to file bankruptcy because of my preps. What to do now? Who needs a place to go?

Abuse of credit cards is not wise.

Jenifer,

I will assume that your message is sincere (smile). Some local GIs that I have met have racked up their credit cards and risk bankruptcy by their preparations. Some were already near financial ruin when they began their preparations. In fact, my Y2K preparations have hit us hard and especially now (work always falls off in the summer). As you may know, some kinds of preparations can get very expensive.

In the face of the seriousness of potential Y2K problems, I believe this is a time when some of us will have to take *any* job that we can to keep on with the preparations. Preferably that will be a job that allows you a certain discount on things that will be included in your preparations. Or a job that gives you insight into how your local officials and government is preparing for Y2K. Whatever job you get, take pride in your work, keep your chin up, and keep on keeping on.

And if you happen to see Stan Faryna working the register at Costco, don't be too shy to say hello.

Sincerely, Stan Faryna
