ATMs, -------down----fyi!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

After only a couple months on this page. I have a pretty good idea who is sincere and who is not and am appreciative of the information, especially from the programmers!

The sharing of ones personal experiences from around the world as we lead up to the new year is important to me. (see above)

I have a business associate who sells ATM machines all over the country. He is not a real serious GI, in fact he almost cringes when we talk about it in the office.

Well the phone just rang and it was him calling from San diego this afternoon. (7-2-99) He begins to tell me how all of his ATMs are supported by two carriers (for lack of a better word) and that 25% are on a carrier that went down for the last couple days because of tests with new y2 software and they are still having problems. FYI---- and I could care less if anyone ones believes this or not!

Thanks Dave. I'll make note of that. Remember that it is a good thing that they find these things out one at a time before the deadline.

(I'm begining to hate that word "deadline".)

David -

Some of us live in San Diego. Did your friend indicate which banks are affected? I have a few media contacts that I can alert.

sorry about the delay. The guy that called me about this has ATMs all over the country, not just in San diego. The reason I even posted this (other than the obvious) was because of this guys attitude when he called me this afternoon. He was in a mild case of SHOCK---- kind of like a holy s*** "this is for real" only because it had a personal impact on his life . When I told him I was going to post the info. he said no don't. I will respect his wishes. Just thought it was pertainent info. on a very small scale.

Anecdotal. ATMs down in our town today. Saw the bank president at the golf course and he wouldn't look me in the eye. A bit odd, because I had interviewed him about Y2K six months ago for my county newspaper column. Hmmmm .....

Hi. I just visited my bank today and was told by the CSR as I opened another savings account that Government officials will be in by the end of July to test. He stated to me that this will be the case with all banks...Anyone hear about this? The bank is FirstStar and is in Cleveland Ohio. He said they still have problems, but anticipate them being fixed. (Oh yeah sure sure) Needless to say, my $$$ wont be there long. But I am very curious about the government checking the systems. Anyone ??? Thanks

FYI.

ATMs down at my local gas station Friday 2nd July. Pump attendant told me a replacement had been ordered and he had had enough of manually filling in ATM details.
