greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My legs and ankles have been broken up some. I addition I have had heart surgery.

The doctors have given me everything under to sun. When my pain gets so bad in my legs I get depressed from the pain and hard to live with.Lately, they have changed it to from one to another pain killer and antidepressent. I never liked to take antidepressents and pain killers the side effects are not to my liking. Please answer as soon as you Bed looks good.

With Y2K coming and not sure how things will turn out, Sunday I decided to forgo taking the Hydroxyz, Generic for: Vistaril 50mg.

I thought there must surley be a natural Vit. Or herb that will do the same thing.

Since I quit sunday Iv'e had a temputere of 102 and my body feels like I got the old time flu, With aches and pains. and same type systmons.

Is all this normal when you quit taking a drug like this?

ANYBODYS Had experiernices that might help?

It takes 6 months to get a doctors appt.

Lon, you didn't hear it from me, but (trust me) you want the all natural herbal remedy. I don't know how you'd go about getting it but you might seriously want to find a source of medicinal marijuana. I kid you not. Very inexpensive, the effects are felt immediatly, no stomach upsets, no hassles with the Doc, and no side effects from stopping. The only thing I'd say that with any history of heart problems it would be wise to consult a DR. before taking ANY new drugs. (ust not your regular DR in this case). Just my opinion, but if more Doctors resorted to medicinal marijuana there wouldn't be so much suffering in the world. Plus retired citizens wouldn't be shelling out megabucks for weak , addicting pain killers.

I can't help you with the side effects from stopping the Hydroxyz but I imagine it's your body's way of saying that stuff didn't belong in your system.

Lon,

6 months to get a doctors appointment? Are you going to a VA hospital or doctor by any chance? If so, get out of there quick as you can. :-(

Lon, the Reverent Malkmus also had a serious health problem and then cured himself. Take a look at his website and follow his advise and I guarantee you that you will regain your health! http://home.unicomp.net/~lschiele/gmtest.htm

Have you tried tuna suppositories?

Seriously dude, asking for medical advice here is like playing russian roulette with a semi auto pistol.

Hi Lon. Glad you are able to come back. I'm afraid Jim is right. You're playing with fire here unless you take all recommedations with a large amount of salt...(oops, sorry. you can't have salt). That includes anything I have to say also. Go find yourself a good herbologist or naturopathic physician and do what he says for a while. (OBTW, those are the withdrawal symptoms of long term Vistaril use). Good luck, my friend. May your health improve quickly.

Lon,

Please get some help TONIGHT.... a temp. of 102 in an adult is way too high to be ignored.... Especially if you have had recent surgery... it is possible that this could be a sign of an infection going on. I am not that familiar with the meds you mentioned so I guess it could be some systemic reaction but.... you definitely need to rule out infection! Your insurance company might have a 24 hour nursing phone line for assistance.... if not go to the emergency room if this continues. When you say your legs/ankles are "broken up" does that mean they harvested veins for your heart surgery? If so that is another potential infection site. How long ago was this surgery?... Aw heck - go get some help.

If you are going to ignore everything else I have said then at least drink lots of non-caffeinated fluids make sure you don't get constipated (seriously... it is a common serious side effect of painkillers, inactivity, etc.) get docusate sodium capsules from your pharmacist if so.....big ones....stool softener. If safe to do so MOVE and keep moving.

Please go see a doctor asap.

Look into self relaxation, deep breathing exercises to help you relax and cope with the stress/pain.... right now take a big breath and SIGH. And go see a doctor.....

Kristi

i never fail to be amazed at smart-ass answers to sincere questions. too many hunter s. thompson wannabes. Lon,i would check out acupuncture for your pain. after reading your post, i found a site called acupuncture.com--very informative. acupuncture has become very accepted by conventional medicine--many insurance co.cover treatment.many studies have shown it successful for pain control, anxiety disorders and depression.acupuncturistmust have a 3yr schooling with rigorous requirements to get licensed.the site will also tell you how to find an acupuncturist in your area. good luck, lon-- my email is real, let me know how you are doing-dory p.s. maybe OT, but still important.

Lon, call your Doctor immediately! After surgery a temperature must be monitored closely, with appropriate intervention if it goes up.

Vistaril is often given if a patient has allergic reactions, such as rash, to morphine.

Also, it's good to very gently exercise your legs, and move around when you're awake, changing position at least every 2 hours.

And you can always read the Forum to cheer up! Who needs anti-depressants with Y2K screeching down the tracks? ;^)

Get well soon, and get aggressive and demand good care from your health care providers.

Here's a cruel question: Just how motivated are you to make it to January?

Keep in mind that anyone who dies in 1999 is going to miss all the FUN.

Have you tried magnets? It seems to some one of the old "snake oil" remedies, but it really works . . on many pains . . not all. I use them for everything and usually they work well. It is worth a try!

Try looking at:

Lon you need medical care now. The problems you have might be from discontinuing your meds. It can be dangerous to just quit. Some medications must be tapered off slowly. You should not be doing this without supervision.
