Billboards popping up in Arkansas

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I saw two billboards in two different cities in Arkansas, they both said RUY2KOK? (hugh lettering) Below is a referral to the Sate of Arkansas web site, or phone number (I was traveling too fast to read the smaller print) With both of these billboard on a major interstate (I30) Do you think there is more awarness in the state of Ark. about Y2K?

I saw those signs as I was passing through Birmingham about a month ago. I don't know whether they are any more aware then the rest of the country but I do know that the natives there have taken up shooting Bill Clinton signs all over the place. They must have some clue as to what is going on in the world.

Sorry, that didn't make much sense. I did see them in Birmingham but I meant to add that in Little Rock they also had those signs... and then the stuff about Bubba... hate it when I foul up my posts like that.

I live in the hillbilly state and it is just like everywhere else. Lots of folks here are prepared for whatever, y2k, russian invasion, comet strike, solar flares, etc.. Most have no clue just like everywhere else.

i also live in the "natural state"......but have not as yet seen the signs......i'll keep an eye out

there doesn't seem to be a lot of talk going on in ARK about Y2K......least not that i've heard

the small town we live near had an article about a month ago.......it basically said that there wasn't much to worry about......things will be fine HA!

html guy...........i knew what you meant... (i've seen his paintball spattered face in person HA! HA!)

The y2k billboards are probably "public service" messages put on by the billboard owners at no cost so that the message is not considered "blank" and so that the blank sign is not subject to removal as a nonconforming sign in a noncommercial or nonindustrial area. As soon as an advertising contract is obtained for the sign, the public service message is gone.

Well, andrea, I now live in NW Arkansas -- having moved here from Washington, D.C. about 3 months ago. And I can tell you that, beneath the surface, a lot of people here are in fact getting ready. A friend that I've made, a farmer who has lived here for years, says that he has observed people who have not had chickens or hogs for years suddenly are getting them. He says that everyone he talks to certainly knows about it, and at least figures it doesn't hurt to take some precautions. That sort of thing.

Its in the cities like D.C. that nobody, at least as of the time I left, seriously talked about Y2K. And no wonder: its hopeless trying to prepare if you are in a big city!

Hey, any of you ARkies out there interested in a message board for those in AR concerned about Y2K, you can go to this url below. But apparently, due to a lack of interest (the 'lull') it might be dropped. Give it a boost, perhaps we can share some local info there, educate a few folks, and save it from going under. As for noticing folks preparing in AR, not around here. If they are, they are being pretty quiet about it.

River Valley Y2K

hope that worked!
