ED.....WHY GO ON WITH THIS ?????????????????????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Ed,

I know you are no longer the forum moderator but why not put an end to this forum? There is nothing usefull here anymore. I have been a faithful follower of yourdon.com for a long time now and it has deteriorated to al--d threads. The new moderators continue to whine about censoring, and now another post about religion.

For anyone searching out help with Y2K, this is no longer the place to come. I see why you left the Y2K arena. I would not want to be associated with this place either.

Bless your heart for all the work you have done, but the time has come for this to end.

I am sadened...............

Aw come on, where is your sense of humor? We aren't hurting anybody! If you don't like this place take off, but I for one enjoy being entertained here. I mean, they don't take The Simpsons off the air because it's dumb and doesn't serve a purpose.

Regular,

Why let them win?

Just weed out what you like, if you don't like move on.

There's still an occasional interesting post on poulty or discussion on goats vs. cows. It's just not as often and a lot of regulars who really made this forum soooooo thought provoking have moved on but I bet they'll be popping back in. At least, most said they would.

That's not Pat up there, is it? Or is it Peg? Whoever you are, go back to Der Boonkah and quit trying to create a self-fulfilling prophecy--it ain't gonna work.

Regular:

I enjoy the regular and irregular postings. This forum contains postings by real humans will real concerns. Their angers, frustrations, suggestions, warnings, news bulletins, humor and other inspirational words have allowed this forum to flourish. Many tap into this special niche in cyberspace and find solace.

Do you really want Ed to pull the plug, turn off the spigot, nip it in the bud, cull the concerns, and dump the unanswered questions?

Ed Yourdon knew what he was doing when he started this forum.

Do you know better?

Let's keep the forum! True, there is a trashy element, but I, for one, have learned to be selective in what I read- if certain unsavory characters post a thread, I just avoid them. I am still learning things on preparation, as well as news clips from people like Andy.

Forinstance, the question just now about compost tumblers was one I have been interested in. Several helpful replies from that.

I find that when I have a question, there are always a number of nice people who are willing to give helpful advice.

I also enjoy the question on what have we done, in the past week, to prepare- it's interesting to see the varied responses. Keep the forum, please!

Regular,

I don't read al--d threads. Why do you? Y2K philosophy is a moving target except for the Milne 10 folk. They and the NWGI are the only ones not in flux. Forum still posts lots of good prep stuff. Hope tonite to learn the "best corn for canning". Babies, bathwater and all that stuff my friend.

Well, here's a few reasons:

Year 2000 Preparation Archive Top Level

HTML Senate Report on Y2K with bookmarks

Sanger's Review of Y2K News Reports

euy2k.com - The Newsroom

Yahoo! Full Coverage:Year 2000 Problem

Get the idea? Shall I continue? Or maybe I missed something, and they fixed the promlem... <:)=

Why go on? Because there are some good, rational discussions. An example was the one on goats vs. cows for a family milk supply. Others happen daily. Yes, there are some difficult individuals who try to hinder valid discussions, but we need not let them destroy our information exchange.

I think one of the reasons this place is so great, is that it isn't all doom and gloom. I ROFLMAO several times a week at the stuff said here. It has also been a great place to learn. I think life is serious enough at the moment, and it's nice to have a place to talk about things that maybe your friends don't take seriously. I don't know what you're looking for, but if you can't find it here there are indeed other places to look. I for one, would have been very sad to see this board go. Thanks to whoever for keeping it going.

Since Al-d has shown up on this forum I would say I spend about a tenth of the time I formally did. It's a little like eating an apple that is about 30% rotten, its real easy to throw it away. Al-d is not some poor spelling rube, highly intelligent, and in my opinion doing a marvalous [sp LOL] job of distroying this forum.

-- Daryll (twinck@wfeca.net), June 26, 1999.

TROLL ALERT!!

The forum must be here to help newbies as they come to us. Surely among all the regulars, we have enough energy to continue what Ed started.

-- Sandmann (Sandmann@alasbab.com), June 26, 1999.

Regular (Regular@Preparing.com),

Regular troll... because it's not your decision... or Ed's any longer.

The decision to keep the forum going belongs to all of us who choose to keep posting here. Your choice is to leave if you don't like it.

Do so... or not. But kindly quit whining if you "choose" stay..

True, this forum is not much different than most usenet groups, and it's just as entertaining. As long as people are willing to host it, moderate it, post to it, or read it, what's the problem?

I have to take issue with that remark about the Simpsons, though. The Simpsons is without a doubt (IMO), the most consistently brilliant show on television. It works at many different levels simultaneously, and some of the humor is of an extremely subtle nature that can be understood only by a very well-educated and observent viewer. The more you know, the more likely it is that you will GET IT.
