I thought this deserved it's own thread

I want to know why Will is not embaredassed by stating things as inane as this: "Face it. You guys don't want to know. You know they have NO intention of spilling the beans in the utility companies or any other industry." Spilling the beans? Which beans would that be? the good beans or bad beans. Now how do you know how the industry is doing when you have no data. How do you draw your conclusions that you won't have food based on no data?

"Why should they? They have a country full of helpless 'sheeple' that will swallow anything they say or don't say. You are the proof of that. "Unless you 'proove' it to me, I'll just keep swallowing"." Then you go on to spout how the rest of us swallow what they say. So even if the industry says something you won't believe them. Still based on no data you will conclude that they don't know what's going on and you do.

"People just aren't able to think for themselves." Yet you are. My, you're so full of shit, the "whites" of your eyes must be brown.

"You are willing to bet your country on the opinions of Dan the Power man. Why not Mr. Rogers? Oh yea, Mister Rogers ISN'T an engineer. The 'experts' know." You criticize someone for agreeing with Dan the Power Man and yet you find it perfectly OK for you to agree with Ed Yourdon or whomever. What makes your "experts" better than anyone's?

"They know everything, they helped get us INTO this mess after all, surely they can get us out again, even though they started too late, and are now out of time. They're 'experts'." So you placed this mess on "they" Are you that helpless that you have to blame some "they" for this "mess"? What? too big for that little brain of yours to comprehend this "mess", so you have to humanize it somehow? News flash the "they" doesn't exist.

"Big corporation would NEVER lie, and the government has ALWAYS been truthful, right? Fools" Of course corporations lie. This is nothing new and yet you seem to think it only applies to Y2K. Corp america trys to sell you something every day. Oh little one try to think for yourself (which you claim you can do). You bought into this "mess" lock stock and barrel.

One other thing. Will, we have heard this kind of ranting on numerous other occasions. Try to be a little more original next time.

And that's why Gallup has found out that 50% of Americans believe that people will panic and withdraw ALL their funds before y2k.

Any questions?

My dear "some". You are a hopeless naif if you expect any significant numbers of politicians, bureacrats, or large corporation officials to treat you as anything other than a mushroom (keep you in the dark and cover you with sh*t).

They cannot do anything other than put on a happy face. You cannot believe their pronouncements of good news. How many times do they have to ream you before you realize you need to start wearing a diaper?

I realize that it is a problem to know that you cannot trust your so-called leaders, but "A is A". Anyone with any sense realizes that all political apparatus is for the benefit of those in the political apparatus. If that means "mushrooming" you, no problemo. That means it is difficult for you to ascertain what the situation really is/will be -- "bump" or TEOTWAWKI". Since you can't know, prudence dictates that you prepare. Any other course is just "whistling in the dark," "sticking your head in the sand."

Above should be addressed "to whom it may concern."

Company: The Y2K test was successful.

Consumer: Excellent, could we now please see the data on what happened during this test and what the test entailed?

Company: Err, I'm unable to provide you with any data.

and so are the days of our lives .....

"A" said . .

"That means it is difficult for you to ascertain what the situation really is/will be -- "bump" or TEOTWAWKI". Since you can't know, prudence dictates that you prepare. Any other course is just "whistling in the dark," "sticking your head in the sand.""

Nice logical loop. So lets try this . . (one example from a resource base of millions) . .

Space is a busy place. Comet Lee is coming. Could be a problem, but probably wont be. Earth is constantly orbiting in and out of comet orbits and (being a massive object) actually asserts a degree of "attraction" onto other astral objects. Evidence suggests that Earth is struck directly by a major object pretty frequently, and that in most cases the effects on life are devastating. (much recent evidence suggests that human society has been interrupted and set- back on several occasions in the last 2000 years by similar events).

Experts in the field are unable to guarantee that an event of this kind will not occur AT ANY GIVEN TIME, nor can they guarantee that they would necessarily be in a position to issue any form of warning SHOULD it be about to occur. As a non-expert, you are even less able to know whether one of these comets WILL or WILL NOT strike the earth tomorrow. So . .

"Since you can't know, prudence dictates that you prepare. Any other course is just "whistling in the dark," "sticking your head in the sand.""

Sensible preparation against a massive-comet earth strike would involve the construction of a survival shelter considerably deeper and more impregnable than the average nuclear bunker, with supplies which may need to last some 20 years or more.

I trust that, armed with this information, you will begin digging immediately.

Good luck.

W0lv3r1n3, good reasoning but alas it's wasted on people to stupid to "see" it or get it, even though they think they are the smart (er... ah excuse me chosen) ones. The true problem with reasoning with someone such as a doomer is that they can't see past their little world. The " better safe than sorry" logic is a way of life for the rest of us but they carry it like a badge of honor.

I hope all you pollys are carbo-loading and really packing on the pounds. In a very short while you may be eating your words, and since they're nothing but hot air (devoid of any calories or nutrition), you're gonna need to be able to sustain yourself.

Eatup

I'm very keen to see any factual information you may have which indicates that supplies of food, (or anything else for that matter), to the part of the world I inhabit, may be interrupted or shut down because of Y2K.

(Hint: "Because I'm SOOOOOO sure that's what will happen, cuz Gary and Ed and Cory told me" does not constitute factual information.)

Oh, but you dont know which part of the world I inhabit do you. That could cause you a problem in complying with my request.(Unless you've tracked my infrequent posts on other threads, in which case, you CAN be specific).

I look forward to your words of enlightenment.
