LOL!!! Does that mean you'll come over with a fan when the AC goes out? Hey, thanks for the head's up--I've been buried in moving stuff around and putting up shelving all day (and have some very resentful felines who hate the noise of my driller/driver and saw). I don't know if I'll be able to make the meeting but I'm going to pull out all stops.

Old Git:

Many thanks for the ccrane.com link for solar battery chargers and Nicad batteries. I plan to mail my order Tuesday.

When there's no electrical juice, I plan on using batteries in my compact disc player to listen to the three Hs: Handel, Haydn and Hanson!

Mmmbop!

O.G.--

I'll bet if you go to the meeting, you'll be assured that the AC will not be going off! ;)

In case you hadn't noticed, there are quite a few people on this board who have enjoyed your contributions.

If you do get to attend this meeting, please let us know how rosy they say everything will be in that neck of the woods.

Well, I didn't get to go to the meeting. Just too much to do here at the house, after being in real estate limbo for nearly eight months. We were at Lowe's picking out vinyl flooring when the meeting was due to start, got to have it down before Saturday, last night was the only free night to go). I checked the local access cable channel when we got back (they cover council meetings)--nada. This morning, I scoured the Durham paper--zilch. Then I checked the TV stations--nothing. And not a word about it on the Raleigh paper Web site. I'm going to be optimistic. I'm going to think the meeting may not have been reported because it preceded a regular Council session and so ran on past deadline. I'm going to think it might have been postponed. I'm not going to think it was not covered. I'll let you know after I talk to folks at the local paper (they don't get in until about 8:30 or 9).

Sorry, don't mean to appear ungracious about your kind remarks. I just like to get the business out of the way first! And, you know, I feel embarrassed and even a bit guilty because I really haven't gone much out of my way to post anything--a lot of it is stuff I need for my own files and it needed to be typed up anyway. It was no trouble to post it on the board. I'm really glad people get as much use out of the info as I do.

As I keep promising, when I get my lovely books back, unpacked, sorted and shelved I'll be posting more. 'Course, I have to get all the shelves up first. . . We've added more books since those were packed and stored and almost filled up the bookshelves again! (The library had their incredible summer sale--a grocery sack of fiction for $5--FIVE BUCKS! And excellent non-fiction and reference, $1 hard, .50 paper. Who could resist? Off-the-grid entertainment! They're having another sale in the fall--whoopee! Must join Friends of the Library for the special members' sale.

Oh Busy Old Git, I doubt you missed much at that meeting that you haven't already heard: "Everything's going to be fine;" "We're working on it;" "We're finished;" etc. etc. If you want a taste of a "glowing" Triangle y2k status report, log on @ www.raleigh-nc.org/pubaffairs/y2krep.htm. That should really make you want to relax (snooze, go into a coma) instead of working on all those projects around the house!

So Why, I detect just a tad of sarcasm in that post - is the spin starting to get on your nerves?

Old Git, best of luck with your renovations. Looks like we'll have some (more) unexpected expenses ourselves - the main bathroom tub/shower is leaking, somewhere. *sigh* BTW, any hints on how to get older (spayed, female) cats to accept a male kitten? One's okay, but the other one is still hissing any time they're within 20' of each other. So much for her teaching him to hunt.
