According to CNN: The good people of Amherst, MA today rejected a proposal to build an emergency shelter for Y2K. The shelter would have cost approx. $50,000.00 to build. An official said that while it had been considered as a contingency, it would probably not be needed. Thank you CNN for more quality, unbiased Y2K coverage!

Come on. Some idiot would have burned it down anyway during the first day or so.

The people rejected it. That was their choice.

Sorry that my de-lurking has to be so darn off-topic, but there HAS been recent consternations here about spelling and grammar......so this is for Bob: It's not "stinking lifeboats", it's "steeenking lifeboats"! Happy Saturday!

Hi Gilda!Q: What's the ~population of Amherst? Just how many folks did they exspect to pile into a $50k shelter anyway? And who would have been "invited"? Probably not the likes of you and me. The mayor's chef? Yeh, gotta eat, right?
Feelin' a bit grouchy. Remember the tuna.
