Why Paule Milne is a Polly: Part II

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My apologies to Paul. I knew this would draw the maximum amout of attention. I posted on another thread "Has a troll like c4i done irreprutable damage on a forum such as this." Yesterday was a very fun day all due to c4i. There must be 7 or 8 threads involving c4i in content. "But" I see a potential for some real damage there. Try this senerio----- A post by the now famous c4i, in this post he states that his group has just uncovered some information which he can not reveal at this time but the C2 [Command and Control] along with the DOD know will shake the foundations of this country. It involves the CINC and this information will be released on Monday. Their group which is 89.3% accurate predicts that the Stock Market will react to this by dropping 1300 to 1500 points. c4i and e-mail address on the bottom of a statement like this. Just what would people do? What if some people "PANIC" and sold out of the stock market [a good idea but this is just a senerio] What "if" it snowballed and the Stock Market really did drop 1500 points [we know this forum isn't that powerful]. End of senerio. We don't need to lose credibility on this forum. It's my opinion that for some of us a red flag should be flying. Probably the best take on this whole c4i thing over at the thread "Paging c4i---Answer Please." Go and see Gordon's piece on this.

The stock market IS dipping 1500 points.

PS-With respect to previous threads on trolls, I kind of like to watch you folks roust out the trolls. It's like watching a vampire movie.

There is a famous joke on Wall Street:

"If you hear a rumor that the Russians will start a nuclear war in an hour, do you buy or sell?"

The correct answer is, you buy. If the rumor is false, you will make a fortune on the stock market. If the rumor is true, who cares about money anymore.

Dave,

Regarding trolls, have you ever watched a Robin searching for worms on the lawn? Kind of neat, really. They hop around, stop, look, listen, and then grab a worm and devour it. Now, I know this isn't exactly the way we handle it here, but it's pretty close. And it's natural instinct.

The question I asked was never answered. So much for c4i !!!!!!! Next?

Just finished my daily review of the posts. Whew! Do you people ever break for work/sleep?

Regarding c4i -- The President and NATO have just been broadsided by the Russian invasion into Kosovo. From all reports, they had no inkling that this would happen. (One would think that in the middle of a war, spies would be tracking something as basic as troop movements in the region). Apparently military intelligence is still an oxymoron.

Yet this c4i guy claims his "group" can predict with 89% accuracy the outcome of Y2K related social disruptions six months into the future.

Gimme a break.

yeah - if c4i wanted to establish credibility - he could have forecasted that one yesterday -

Re: Russians suprise NATO.....

This just facinates me. Why do "we", the US and others, have this arrogant attitude that everybody will do as we say or expect? Russia is a country with leaders that may or may not go along with the game plan. This should be no suprise to anyone, tht's the way of world politics, etc. Who really knows what their leaders are thinking. Does anyone honestly think that they are going to lay all of their cards onthe table just because we send someone to talk to them? Our arrogance in thinking that just because we say so makes it right or that it will follow a script is sheer nonsense.

The world is not made up of folks that listen to polls, believe their own pontifications, and most of all agree with "our" views of right, wrong and the American Way. Our naive belief of this is what gets us into messes that we should have never gotten into in the first place. Our "enlightened" leaders had better learn to play this game in a more realistic and mature way or we will continue to underestimate our advesaries and come out on the short end of the deal.

just my humble opinion....
