NK Patrol Boats Continue Incursions

The Joint Chiefs of Staff headquarters announced at 4:45 am Thursday that for the fourth consecutive day, a North Korean patrol boat had entered the United Nations' demarcated buffer zone followed by up to six others. According to a spokesman, they appeared to be accompanying a fishing flotilla, but crossed up to 3.5km into South Korean waters. Currently there are ten South Korean naval vessels conducting high speed patrols to scare off the North's vessels, but are not yet authorized to open fire. This will be given should North Korean boats encroach further into the South's territorial waters. The South Korean airforce is also conducting aggressive aerial patrols and the army has been placed on a higher state of readiness.

In a report to the National Assembly, the Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported that North Korean boats crossed the northern limit line (NLL) for the first time on June 7, but that this was not regarded as serious as it is a common occurrence during the crab fishing season.

The NLL and buffer zone were created in 1953 by the United Nations Command and in 1968 North Korea declared its twelve kilometer territorial limit. In 1975 a South Korean naval boat opened fire and sank an armed North Korean ship which entered the South's waters.

Could Nikoli or somebody please explain why, if a massive invasion from North to South is in the works, they are pissing around with this kind of stupid, random crap ? Seems counter-productive if they are really planning a well-organized comprehensive strike.

Vronsky,

Remember the Gulf of Tonkin incident where North Vietnamese patrol boats supposedly attacked our ships? I think the North Koreans are looking for an excuse to attack full scale. Perhaps it's a fuse lighting incident to get the North Korean people behind a war. If they keep baiting and pushing, they may get the attack they need to use as propoganda. Any other thoughts on this?

S.Korea denies news report of threat against North

SEOUL, June 11 (Reuters) - South Korea's Defence Ministry on Friday strongly denied a state news agency report that it would take ``all possible steps and sacrifices'' against North Korea to end a naval standoff in the Yellow Sea now in its fifth day.

State-run Yonhap News Agency quoted an unidentified defence ministry official as saying: ``South Korea would take all possible steps and sacrifices to strongly counter the current North Korea intrusion.''

A defence ministry lieutenant-general strongly denied the Yonhap report, saying its tone was ``too strong.''

``South Korea's position is that it would strengthen its presence in the standoff area in case of emergency and that it would seek to resolve the situation as soon as possible,'' he said.

In an earlier briefing, a defence ministry spokesman told reporters that South Korea, still technically at war with North Korea after the 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce, had no deadline for resolution of the standoff but that the five-day intrusion had gone on too long.

South Korea said four North Korean patrol ships returned to South Korean waters for a fifth day early on Friday along with 20 fishing boats. Both Koreas have accused each other of intrusions across the sea border.

U.S. plan for war against north

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- Chairpersons of religious organizations in the DPRK issued statements Wednesday condemning the U.S. for their frantic moves for a new war against the DPRK. The chairwoman of the Korean Chondoist Church Central Guidance Committee, Ryu Mi Yong, in a statement harshly denounced in the name of all Chondoists the U.S.'s adventurous and provocative "operation plan 5027-98," considering it to be a grave provocation against the DPRK and an imprudent challenge to the 70 million Koreans and the world's peace-loving people desirous of peace and reunification of Korea. The chairman of the Korean Buddhist Federation Central Committee, Pak Thae Hwa, stressed in a statement that all Buddhists in the North Korea are determined to form units of monk soldiers and turn out as one in the sacred struggle against the aggressors, once the U.S. finally unleash a war in Korea. The U.S. is well advised to abandon the war moves against the DPRK and approach in a sincere manner the establishment of a solid peace mechanism on the Korean peninsula, mindful of a bitter defeat they will suffer in a war against the DPRK.

Symposiums on leadership exploits of Kim Jong Il

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- A symposium "on the exploits of his excellency Kim Jong Il in leading the party for 35 years" was held by the Society for the Study of Comrade Kim Jong Il's Works of the United Party of Struggle of Madagascar, 35 years after General Secretary Kim Jong Il started the work at the Central Committee of the Worker's Party of Korea (WPK). Noting that Kim Jong Il has led the party from long ago and achieved great exploits that will shine in history, speakers said that one of these exploits is that he developed the immortal Juche idea fathered by the great leader President Kim Il Sung into the guiding idea of the times. Saying that Kim Jong Il strengthened the WPK into a revolutionary party of Juche and an ever-victorious iron-willed one based on the Juche idea, they stressed that he is the destiny of socialist Korea and the great leader of the global socialist movement. Another feat performed by him is that he built up defence power strong enough to foil any imperialist invasion and firmly defend socialist Korea, they said, and highly lauded him as the peerless genius in military strategy. The Group for the Study of the Juche Idea of Comrade Kim Il Sung of the Old Kampala Higher Middle School in Uganda held a symposium under the title of "five years of great successor."

I've been anticipating a nuclear launch from North Korea to South Korea since late last year. I think it's possible North Korea will overreact and launch a missile into South Korea.

Then Japanese and other Asian nations will panic, make massive runs on their banks, thus starting the domino effect which will crash Wall Street and initiate the depression in America.

Or else India and Pakistan will launch their nuclear weapons causing the same domino effect worldwide.

Then we get hit with Y2K and watch our civilization unravel...
