S. Korean hawks' premeditated provocation flayed

Pyongyang, June 8 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in a commentary today lashes out at the South Korean war hawks for their renewed military provocation against the North Korea. On June 5, the South Korean war hawks illegally infiltrated three warships deep into the territorial waters of the north. The intrusion is a premeditated provocative act intended to find an excuse to make a preemptive attack on the North Korea in pursuance of the "operation plan 5027-98", a new DPRK-targeted war scenario mapped out by their master, the U.S., the commentary observes, and says: This is clear evidence that the hawkish elements of the "government for the people" are running amok to unleash a war against the north. The DPRK can never remain a passive onlooker to such provocation. The U.S. and the South Korean war hawks are well advised not to act rashly, mindful that the preemptive attack on the north will only precipitate their ultimate destruction.

NK Patrol Boats Cross NLL Again

Another group of five North Korean patrol boats crossed Northern Limit Line 10km west of Youngpyong island Wednesday morning and are staying in the buffer area, the Joint Chief of Staff headquarters announced later in the day. A spokesman said that a collision between two vessels from both sides was reported during the confrontation. He continued that no exchange of fire took place as ROK navy boats were ordered not to fire as long as the North Korean boats remained in the buffer area set by the United Nation's Command. The collision occured between a South Korean 170 ton PKM fast patrol boat which sped towards a North Korean 215 ton SO-1 vessel in an attempt to force it out of the area. It suffered a 1.5 meter by 1 meter dent on its port side.

Earlier, six North Korean patrol boats which had entered South Korean waters on Tuesday returned to their base after staying eleven hours. They had appeared in North Korean waters on Monday escorting fishing vessels and then crossed into the buffer zone, but left the area late Tuesday. Military authorities ordered the banning of fishing in the area in the morning forcing ships already located there to return to port.

In 1997 North Korean vessels crossed south on thirty three occasions, but this is the first time they have taken up position for any sustained period. North Korean authorities are claiming that ROK Navy ships had crossed into its waters. The US 8th army command issued a request for talks on the incident at general level, but the North refused.
