I can suggest one recent text on the subject which incorporates much of the current "robust" design approaches. That is "Robust Process Control" by Manfred Morari and Evanghelos Zafiriou (ISBN 0-13-782153- 0). I thought it was one of the better books for practical theory. This Q&A forum is still new but hopefully can find some other ideas for you as well.
