Check out http://www.sbnp.org/ for details about Sungei Buloh.
If you are really want to do nature photography of birds in this park, get ready to invest in LONG lenses. IMO, 400mm is the minimum for a decent enviornment shot while to fill the frame, you'll need a 600mm with 1.4X or 2X.
IMO, your backyard, stalking with a homemade blind, provides a better option for bird photography without such heavy investment in long lenses.

There is a TransIsland bus that will bring you there from Kranji MRT. Can't remember what number. The bus only stops right outside the park on Sunday and public holidays. For weekdays and sat, it will stop quite a distance from the park and you will have to walk in. You need long lenses to take birds photography. The migrating seasons is usually between September and March.

Go to botanical gardens if you're interested in tropical plants and such. It's just off Orchard Road, very easily accessible.
