Ye Olde Beeline

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask William : One Thread

Hello, godlike fellow William figure! I was wondering whatever happened to that old BBS the Beeline. It went offline and never seemed to come back; was there ever a project to ressurect it in telnet form? To put old thingies from the Beeline online? Etc etc etc! You help would be immensely appreciated.

The project was begun, but funding never put it online.

As is, most of the software is ready; in perpetual beta as is appropriate, new users can be added, chat works, vapors work, funkies work, kiwis work, etc. We need a friendly linux/x86 server with a static IP address to hang it on. At the moment, I can't afford to turn any of my machines into that (at several hundred dollars per month; I'm a poor kid who works at a grocery store).

If we have enough investor type people who are responsible and want to be SubOps, we'd need roughly $1000 start up capital to cover hardware, telephone install, and ISP costs. And then.. we'd need an additional $200 a month (at least... probably closer to $400) to keep going.

Sorry for taking so long with the reply... the terminal has been down, and I just brought the thing back up last night.
