driver writing stuff

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask William : One Thread

we need to get detailed info about the FireGL 4000 from either Diamond, E&S, or Mitsubishi.

i've emailed Diamond, but they haven't replied. how do i go about writing drivers for this board without documentation? how should i approach the companies to get docs? is getting source code from them at all possible?

you'd either have to reverse-engineer existing drivers (not fun). i recommend writing more letters, begging, and/or asking around to see if anyone's reverse-engineered it already (very unlikely, but can't hurt to try).

Diamond may be a weiner company; perhaps if you call them (non-toll free; your dime) and ask what they're up to they will consider helping.

E&S will likely say (paraphrasing) "Blow me; you and your little non-mainstream OS can just follow the yellow brick road if you want some hope of ever getting back to Kansas."

Realistically, NDA. No NDA, no info... no info, no driver; no driver, no world domination.

Maybe you talk to that 3 diamond company?

Otherwise, look forward to RE'ing your hardware and hope you don't accidentally fry something.
