Response to X Arcade Joystick Question

I am having exactly the same problem with my X-Arcade joystick - it's set up to use the cursers on the number keypad, but MAME uses the normal curser keys. I have tried turning numlock on and off, I have tried setting MAME to all the different default inputs within the controller otions including the X-Arcade one, but no luck. The result is that player one's joystick isn't recognized by MAME (the bottons and player 2's joystick are ok). I'm still trying to figure it out. It doesn't help in the fact that you can't programme the X-Arcade to recognise the standard cursers. Has anyone sorted this problem out? I contacted X-Arcade's support and they said leave numlock on and set the controller options within MAME to X-Arcade, but I tried this and the result was that nothing worked at all - the Joystick or keyboard.
