Response to Plastic mulch vs. landscape cloth?

I'm just starting to experiment. I have soil that's mostly Texas clay. I put the landscape fabric down, covered it in 2 inches of soil followed by about 3 inches of mulch. It's a little more expensive but my theory is that the plants will take in the soil and deep weeds will be prevented from resprouting. Any thoughts? rojustic@cisco.com
