DOS MAME no longer works under NT?

Is it just me, or do the DOS versions 0.34 and 0.35beta1 fail to start up under Windows NT?

I can the 'select soundcard' menu, press '0' for no sound, and immediately get the command prompt back - no crash, no error, nothing.

BeeJay - do you find the same?
