Response to Court hearing 23/2/05 - What happens after repossession

from Moira (Anderston828@aol.com)
Each council will have their own way of deaing with homelessness although I understand that they are bound by certain legislation on how they deal with this matter especially where young children are concerned.

If you have had any communication from your lender saying that you are going to be reposessed you should immediately contact your local council housing office and request rehousing. You could also check with your local CAB office who will be fmailiar with the workings of the local housing department and how they prioritise etc.

Initially you may be put in to temporary housing and this might be a hostel but I think there is a new law that states that where young children are involved they must be given permanent housing within a month or so...CAB will keep you right.

CAB will also advise what housing benefit etc you will qualify for and will advise you regarding applying for emergency Benefit payments /community care grants to facilitate you having to move house

Best to get all the info you need sooner rather than later.

Good luck!
