encoding takes over 12 hours.

I have a Canon MV 650i camera, and my computer is an AMD 2800xp, 1gig ddr 333 ram, asus 4800Ti my VIVO video card, 120 gig HDD and dvd burner. My question is when I try to use Cyberlinks power director pro software to put my movies onto DVD, it captuers fine but takes about 12 hour + to encode it to burn onto DVD. Can you give me insight into this.
