Response to Abbey National/ DLA collection of outstanding arrears

from One Angry Mother (madcow678@hotmail.com)
I got stuffed by Union Finance too. They took my money for their fee, then made me buy an insurance which supposedly covered me for any personal losses incurred due to the shortfall. They did absolutely nothing to help me get the Halifax off my back, in fact I think they did absolutely nothing, full stop, apart from bank the cheques and then kindly go out of business before they had resolved anything.

I got further using my own instincts and common sense than through anything that Union Finance did for me.

I did notice, however, when I received my SARN docs, alot of reference was made to Union Finance and their name was written in big letters across the top of quite a few documents - why I don't know, so maybe they had SOMETHING, but I can only assume it was in regard to the MIG mis-selling.

Anyway, don't fill in the I&E forms until they have explained the debt in full to you, with proof of invoices and bank statements to substantiate their outgoings (they will ask it of you when they send the I&E form, you have every right to do the same!). Also ask for proof of monies received against the debt - if they send you any details, you may notice they receive a bit more than they credit to your account!. Don't give up until they supply you with EVERYTHING you ask for and don't be fobbed off by incomplete replies and statements such as "that is confidential", or "we feel we have answered all your questions" - if they haven't answered it, keep asking. Write to your MP and copy him/her on all paperwork too.

There is some very sound advice on this site. Read everything that is on here, it will help you pick up clues as to how your lender works and how to deal with them.

Wishing you the very best of luck.

Tx
