The US federal debt is some $5.5 trillion (including as much as $1 trillion in total borrowing from Social security and other Trust Funds)(posted 8026 days ago)The S&P 500 has a debt to equity ratio around 20:1 (perhaps ten times higher than historically sustainable levels).
The Amerian consumer has had a savings rate near or below zero for years.
Does all this mean a a looming debt crisis or can we continue to "buy our way to prosperity?"
