LOVE’s legendary frontman ARTHUR LEE, weeks out of prison after a stint for weapon possession, is set to tour and record an album in Europe this summer, NME.COM can reveal.

Lee was released from a Californian jail last December after serving six years of an 11 year sentence. In 1996, he was convicted of possession of a firearm by an ex-felon and also grossly negligent discharge of a firearm for allegedly shooting a gun in the air during a dispute with a neighbour.

The cult icon has served time on the possession charge, but the negligence charged was turned over after a federal appeals court ruled the prosecutor in the original trial was guilty of misconduct.

Though there was some fear that he would face a new trial, Lee is due back at the California Circuit Appeals Court in mid-March when he is expected to be officially released for time served.

"I am rehearsing with my backing band [L.A.-based pop trio] Baby Lemonade and I expect to start an extensive European tour with them sometime in the early Summer," Lee told NME.COM. "I plan to use live horns and strings on this tour as well as record my new album which will probably be in Europe."

Lee said he preferred to work far from his Los Angeles base because "everybody knows that Europeans are just smarter - right?"

Love ruled the Los Angeles psychedelic rock & roll roost in the mid-60s. It was Lee, already signed to Elektra, who suggested the label scoop up The Doors.

Lee says another project he is working on is his autobiography ‘Love Volume One’. In its pages, Lee promises to deliver the goods, "like my personal relationship with Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and the people who have shared the name Love with me and others who shared that time period."

Lee added that despite his sojourn behind bars, his tail was up. "I love playing music," he said. "I love turning people on and seeing them have a good time. I love it as much now as I did when I started."
