Legal & General chrging interest after possession order

After 4 years L & G have written to me claiming a shortfall. It is a comparatively small amount, between £3 and £4 thousand, and they have given me the benefit of the MIG receipts. The amount of the shortfall is, however, less than the interest, late payment charges, insurance premiums etc which they charged to the account AFTER the date of the possession order. Is this normal practice or can I challenge these charges.
