You could telephone or email the Information Commissioner's office for up-to-date advice on this. The telephone number is 01625 545700, and the email address is mail@dataprotection.gov.uk.(posted 8236 days ago)Explain why you have problems with this lender's approach (I presume you find it over-intrusive?) and ask why xerox proof of your identity isn't enough. To be honest, NHL/P ought to be satisfied with your identity anyway simply on the basis they contacted you and were quite prepared to engage in a corespondence with you. I think that if you tell NHL/P your full name, and give address details, that they should be able to locate your data. Ask the IC's office what it thinks. IMHO.
