There was another post on Photo.net asking why fine-art nudes tend to be restrained and "chaste" while fashion is overtly sexual.(posted 8224 days ago)The nude, however, can be an ideal subject for photography. The abstract nude requires a photographer to think very carefully about line, form, and tone.
And perhaps that's the point. Photography consists of the interplay between a three-dimensional subject (four actually in many cases - since the photo is an instant out of time) translated to a two- dimensional medium. That act is what creates the "artistic tension" to which the view responds. The fine-art nude adds the element of sensuality to that equation.
However, my original point was that I see few examples of the true fine-art nude. Most are merely disguised erotica.
