basic gear for the xl-1

I am new to DV filmaking and I was plannig to buy a Canon Xl-1 digital camera but i didnt know exactly what to buy. How many extra battery packs, which filters, which lenses, which steadycam, adobe premier or final cut or any other cool gadgets. So I really need help.
Also I was wondering if I should buy Mac or PC? Thanks for the help.
