help?!...shooting dance recital with xL1

I'm shooting a dance recital. I'm concerned with focus. Will be shooting full stage of dancers from back of auditorium. Should I back focus on back of stage.....and stage and dancers will stay focused. Autofocus won't do, will it?....Or should I try and shoot at f16 for d.o.f.......Appreciate any suggestions........thanks.......Mack
