Response to Brown spots on prints

from Keith Nichols (knichols@iopener.net)
If the spots are different in color from the color of the print, then you have a chemical stain that has nothing to do with the negative. If the spots are the same color and appear to be printed along with the image, then examine your negative to see whether it has flaws in the same places as the spots on the print. You don't say whether you have spots in or on your negatives, but where a bubble clings to the film, an undeveloped, transparent spot can result. This will print dark, just like any other low-density area of the negative. Agitating the tank as recommended by the developer maker and rapping it smartly with your hand now and then during development will help dislodge these bubbles.
