That the child is not revealed as a specific individual, enhances this photo's appeal to me. The blanket and poster keep it squarely in the real world, not some power company's advertising shot. And the fact that the subject is placed centrally is well balanced by the geometry of the wall planes and the receding edge of the floor. If it were my shot, I'd keep the corner with the poster dark (or darker) as it is here, to prevent distraction.

I imagine even kids would like this picture, it's simplicity of form and palette make it easy to understand but the mystery of the gesture and non specific subject make it easy for the veiwer to transpose themselves right into the scene. It's magical Peter Pan/Tinker Bell feeling would make it a good illustration for a children's nighttime story book. The quiet shutter of a digital camera, really helps in these situations.
