ex girlfriend to hand in keys 6yrs afterwe split.what now?

After splitting from my ex-girlfriend i let her keep the house [no kids involved]I moved on with my life and so did she.Now 6yrs later the house is in negative equity and she said she can no longer afford to keep the property on.She is now threatening to hand the keys back to the lenders.my name is on the mortgage and i know they will come for me.I have my own mortgage now and just making ends meet.what steps should i take[apart from rather large one] ?
