Response to Cousins

from Tony Rowlett (rowlett@alaska.net)
This is a nice portrait in my view despite several influences which could be thought of as negative. This photograph is further proof that children pose with more skill than adults. This is a posed shot, but do the same thing with adults and you'd NEVER see as much of the subjects' personalities. I get a nice sense of charm and playfulnes, despite some other possible worries from these two boys. It's difficult to detect their environment. The boy on the right seems distracted. I like seeing the boys' hands in the picture. There is some veiling flare coming in from behind the sunny day around the boys' faces which may be affecting facial detail. The rafters in the background are slightly distracting bright visual whispers. Perhaps the contrast is a bit high. I think more of the immediate surrounding area would give more impact to this. But the photograph is charming as is, too.
