Could it not be that your lender's valuer valued it too high prior to your buying the property? This certainly seems to have happened to me - my flat was valued at #18,500 in 1991 but sold for #1,300 in 1995. I believe that the lender's claim ought to be against their contracted valuer, not hapless destitutes like us. Either that or they sold it too ceap. They can't have it both ways. Something's got to be "off", one would think. Good luck.
