Generation of Mex files

Is anyone familiar with generating MEX files in Matlab on a Unix platform? I'm trying to generate a mex file from a Fortran subroutine in Matlab 5.3 (on a Unix platform), but keep getting warnings regarding symbol referencing errors and a missing file entry point. (If you've done this before, you probably know what that means better than I do.) Being a rookie at this, I'm not sure if I am using the correct arguments in generating the mex file and if I'm calling the mex file correctly from within Matlab. If any of this makes any sense to you or if you have experience in generating mex files, please contact me.
