Tony, the borders are just a full-frame printing, including what's outside the image area for a millimetre or two (from the negative's position). If you do your own printing, you can file out your carrier (otherwise you'll get boring, straight edges, nothing like this). If you go to a lab for prints, ask for a "full rebate" which is what including the edges is called, for some reason, a "rebate"...shawn
