Burning rubber needs that help as well, and so does lady bug. For now... you'll have to change the settings, hit the reset key(F3 by default), and it'll work.
The waste 50 health at the beginning and then move on sounds OK to me for gauntlet ii until a. we get a new driver, or b. we decide to do something about that...
