Long-term Stability of Chromogenic B&W Films

from Thomas Wollstein (thomas_wollstein@web.de)
Many people are (for good reasons, I suppose) fond of films like Ilford's XP 2, or Kodak's T-max CN. As fas as I know, the developed image of these films consists of organic dyes rather than the silver in conventional films (including films with special grains, such as T-maxes and Deltas). Is anyone aware of information on the long-term stability of the dyes? (All I know is that even todays color emulsions exhibit some fading over the years, and there is a strong family resemblance between them and the chromogenic b&w films.) With most of us being concerned about archival stability, this seems an interesting issue.
