Repaid DebTime penalty period?

My daughter has recently cleared a 7 year debt she had with the Nationwide B Soc. after handing back her keys. Is it true that none of the High Street lenders will give her a mortgage until at least a year has passed from the date of settlement? Does this condition only apply to certain lenders? If so, which lenders are likely to be happy to deal with her straight away?
