Response to tricky question about duplex digital I/O

from Mike Martin (K25zone@aol.com)
Gregory, I'll try and answer each of your questions. <<1. Can you record the digital output from the KDFX unit directly into Cubase via the Gina S/PDIF port? >> Yes, the digital out on the K2500, functions just like the Stereo Mix Out, its just a digital signal. So yes, you can record digitally from your K2500 into the Gina.

<<2. Can you pass the digital output from Cubase, via the Gina S/PDIF port, into the digital port of the K2500 sampling option? >> Yes, you could re-sample something from the computer or use Live Mode.

<<3. (The tricky one) Is is possible to route audio out of the Gina S/PDIF port, into the digital input on the sampling option, through the K2500 via Live Mode, through KDFX, out the KDFX digital out, and back into the Cubase via the Gina S/PDIF port? (I can't tell if there are separate physical ports for the digital ins and outs on the Gina....) >> Yes all of the tracking running on the Gina would come out the digital out. There are no seperate outs. You could run the signal out of the GINA through KDFX, then back to GINA digitally. The only factor is whether or not your computer can has the speed to do this.

Have fun, Mike
